lyrics

THE BALLAD OF CHRISTY MOORE

I was hiding under the blankets in the bowel of a summer night. My first night off a bender, my nerves were wrecked with fright, strange lights came from a cupboard, a burly man jumped out, I could not believe it was Christy Moore and he was carrying a bottle of stout.

I screamed with fright the other night cos Christy was so scary. His spirit it might be legend but his body is sweaty and hairy, he drained the drink, he burped, he smiled and then he told me a story. As his eyes were dancing in his head, they were doing the Waves of Tory.

God has sent me Mairtin to warn certain young men to give up the demon gargle while they're young and while they still can, you've been with drunks in Finsbury Park and back in Mountjoy Square, they never seemed to Move your Heart so I thought I'd give you a scare

I screamed with fright the other night cos Christy was so scary. His spirit it might be legend but his body is sweaty and hairy, he drained the drink, he burped, he smiled and then he told me a story. As his eyes were dancing in his head, they were doing the Waves of Tory.

All will be better Mairtin from the day that you give up. A lasting peace in Ireland and to boot we'll win the World Cup. From West Belfast to Whelans you've been drunk a million times, an addict and a testament to your troubles and their crimes
